What Is Going Into Me Characters -- Written by Jon
Written by Jon
To put it simply this is what I put of myself into my characters and why. Why do I play them a certain way and has it worked out (from my perspective). So let's get started.
Karl Hunt: Karl was the first character for this campaign I created (with a lot of help from Enrique) and well when given the choice of classes to pick from Rogue jumped out from the page. The Karl part was a joke from Llamas with Hats and it was just a fun intro to the game for me. In the game itself he kind of embodied my more... self centered and athiestic sides (I am more of an Agnostic/Inactive Christian), also he embodied the part of me that wants to stand up in defiance of a lot of things... and well, sadly he kicked the bucket. R.I.P. Karl.
Matthias Gavenburn: Matthias is an interesting character for me for he is the first of my characters that I did almost entirely on my own. I picked Paladin because it was going to be a challenge for me to play him, and boy was it. Admittedly I did not truly know what I was doing or what I was getting myself into when I made him and it showed, at least it did to me. He was going to be my prim and proper goodie-two-shoes Paladin that did all of the right and just things. He was the ultra good side of me... but the more I played him, especially at first, I came to realize that my 'brand' of good was not a paladins. I am much different than Matthias and after bringing in that backstory a bit he became easier for he wasn't so rigid and I got to play with him a bit more... but by that point I was done with him. I must admit I loathe him for he is a failed character of mine. A great learning experience and a great character in fights... but the fights are secondary to me in D&D. Perhaps I will try a Paladin in line with a different... more neutral/evilish god next time, but I must admit it is unlikely that I will be playing another good Paladin in the future.
Goramnir 'The Tidebreaker' Khazim: Goramnir is me dwarf that I was making and one that I really wanted to introduce... until I found out we would be having three fighters (at the time). Strong, blunt, and very regimented he more or less was/is the side of me that was/is interested in the militaristic way of life. Things are tough and short. Not being one for long conversations he was everything I wanted to be heading into the Army. Though unlike the military, Goramnir would begin to truly come out of his shell and grow. He is part of me past that has shaped me to who I am today. Gora is a character whom I hold near and dear to my heart and he all started with me just wanting to make a dwarf miner like from Warhammer Fantasy. He really blossomed as I worked on him and he would have grown so very much, especially from Duckie.
Ardennes: Ardennes is an interesting character for she is one that I have had for some time now. She originally started out as me. She was a sona of me but grew and became her own character. She isn't me anymore though in a sense she is most similart to me. She tries to be strong and confident, and while she can succeed, deep down she has her own doubts and can be very scared. She has become very straight forward and can be very blunt, though she feels very bad when it has lead to her hurting others. I still have my qualms about bringing her in because she is her own character and I could not honestly do her justice within this world. I made her originally because I thought I could do her justice and Matthias was bothering me so, so very much. I can't and she isn't in yet. So thank God for that. Variations for Ardennes that I have used (being a screenname I sometimes use) are: Isis Ardennes, Artemis Ardennes, Jackal Ardennes, and Corinth Ardenens. Yep Ardennes typically becomes a last name xD.
Josef 'River' Saphory: This guy is the spawn of a joke and one I love oh so very much. While it all started with a joke... he is probably the most like me out of all of the characters I have created... probably including Ardennes (though Ardennes is my most beloved). Stop reading if you don't want to have things get rather personal. I am going to be revealing some shit that not many... actually no one else really knows about. River is who I am when I am drunk. The desires the actions the (for the most part) happiness is who I am when I get drunk. I am one of the subscribers of 'In vino veritas' so it leads me to believe that that is who I am in some strange way down inside of me. At least bottled up in some way/shape/form. He is a huge part of me... the femboyish nature is kind of who I am down inside at least according to all me friends that airsoft (and most that know this shit about me, all 2 of them)... though there is no way I think I could get away with dressing like that xD Especially not here. Especially not with my family. And especially because It would be very... weird for me xD given everything else. ^^ So in a sense this is a way for me to act out what I would like to be... though not nearly as horny. For River I play it up a little bit because it is fun and makes for some good laughs and lightens up the mood a little bit. As for River being a rogue it just seems rather fitting... I could not see him as anything more combat oriented nor could he sing/entertain very well... so a Bard was also out of the question... and no magic/religious stuffs, that just would not work. Thus we have Rogue :D YAY~ I like rogues.
So if you read past the warning in River's section, I hope I explained shit well enough (I doubt I did) and I hope you guys enjoyed this read. It was nice to get it out in here and I hope I get to see how you guys come up with how you play/create your characters.
